Killing Me Softly

October 6th, 2008 · Musical Stars, Randomness

Some days I feel really positive about my job. While on other days I’m tempted to leave and never come back. Teaching middle school children (6th grade) is exhausting, rewarding and useless all at the same time. This past week has been especially taxing because the demands placed on me as a teacher have grown.

Thankfully I have a play list loaded with all of my favorites by The Killers. The songs range from Mr. Brightside to Smile Like You Mean It. I’ve even thrown in some Glamorous Indie Rock N’ Roll.

The single most important song on that list is When You Were Young. Listening to that song reminds me that teaching is only a temporary situation. It’s my personal reality check.

There are days when only music and a prayer get me through.

Happy Monday Everyone! Rock out on your way to work!

Skirtin’ The Runway: Emanuel Unagaro

October 2nd, 2008 · Runways

Esteban Cortazar’s Spring collection for Emanuel Unagaro wasn’t exactly Parisian style fashion. However, the pieces were still kick ass. Bold, vibrant colors are essential for Spring (at least for me) and many of the pieces delivered that needed splash of color. We know the economy sucks but our clothing doesn’t have to suggest we are in route to a funeral. It’s nice to see designers working outside of black and gray.

I also like the subdued appeal of the model’s shoes. A simple sandal with a sexy ankle strap.

And Then There Were 9

October 1st, 2008 · Model Citizens

The top model girls return for more drama and fun. Last week they traded in their busted walks for fierce struts. This week Marjorie was the focus of Top Model drama. Apparently in Europe it’s socially acceptable to have a negative outlook ALL the time. I find her personality a bit exhausting. Needless to say this issue reoccurred the whole show.

Paulina met the girls at a construction site dressed in a seriously unflattering skirt suit. She explained to the girls that they will be expected to style their own clothes for catalog shoots. Their challenge was to find items around the construction site to help make the over sized clothes fit better. McKey won the challenge and received 50 additional frames for her shoot. Marjorie was unable to take Paulina’s criticism and ended up crying (she needs to get it together).

At the photo shoot the girls were asked to portray a natural disaster. A few of the girls did great, the others not so much. Mr. Jay had issues with the shoots of Marjorie, Joslyn, Clark and Lauren Brie. At panel Samantha was called first for having the best shot and Joslyn and Clark ended up in the bottom two.

Guess who’s still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model? Joslyn! Clark is gone.

My Latest Artwork

September 27th, 2008 · Lifestyle, Randomness

I’ve been sitting on this post for almost a month. Towards the beginning of September I decided to get a new tattoo. I have an affinity for stars and anything cosmic. I decided to go with stars and a spaceship because I’m an out of this world kind of girl.

I sent a rough sketch of what I wanted to my tattoo artist and she created this for me.

It took me a while to decide on placement for it. I eventually ended up having her shrink it so that it would fit on my left shoulder.

I absolutely love it. The artist did an amazing job and her idea ended up being better than my original sketch.

If you are considering getting body art I have a few tips for you.

  1. Find a reputable tattoo artist. Talk to friends and family that have nice tattoos. Get their opinions about places in your area that may interest you.
  2. Decide on what you want. Remember tattoos are permanent. Get something that you enjoy or feel really represents you.
  3. Pick a location. Where do you want to have your tattoo placed?
  4. Prep yourself. There is some pain involved in the process. Every one’s tolerance level is different. You can take an ibuprofen before hand to ease some of the pain. Consider bringing a stress ball to squeeze.
  5. Follow the care instructions. Every tattoo artist should give their clients a list of up keep instructions. Don’t lose this paper. Follow the instructions and recommendations of your tattoo professional.
  6. Wear sunscreen always. Tattoos do fade over time but sun accelerates the process. Make sure you always wear sunscreen spf 30 or higher when your tattoo is exposed.
