An Ode To M&M’s Premiums

Sweet, delicious confection,

Oh how I love thee,

Chocolaty, minty, coffee, nutty goodness

My stomach aches, I can’t stop eating you!

Did I ever tell you all that I wanted to be a model? Seriously, I really did. I had such high aspirations for cat walking, but apparently there is this diet thing. Sweets are kind of frowned upon and I’m a committed sugar addict. Quitting is for losers and I’m way too fabulous for that. I’m a frosting fashionista ( lover of all things frosting and fashion). So when BlogHer asked if I wanted to try out the new M&M’s Premiums flavors I said “Heck yeah”. I don’t turn down anything free (except spam) and I was overjoyed when my samples arrived. Thanks Mars you completely made my day.

Let me give you the lowdown on M&M’s Premiums. There are five flavors Triple Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Mocha, Chocolate Almond and Raspberry Almond. In addition to the flavors, Mars has changed the traditional M&M bags to chic, designer like box packaging. The crunchy candy coating that regular M&M’s are known for is gone. In it’s place is a shiny, ultra feminine, gem-like exterior. This is not your children’s chocolate. M&M’s Premiums are an adult treat, a confection to be shared with your girls and hidden from your kids.

Triple Chocolate has been my favorite. I like chocolate overload and I prefer not to have interference from other flavors or textures. It’s creamy smooth white, dark and milk chocolate all wrapped up in a pint size package. This is the true chocolate lover’s dream.

I know Mint Chocolate is an acquired taste for many people but I haven’t met one person that hasn’t liked them (I’ve been sharing, can you believe it?). A friend said they remind her of thin mints. Mars managed to combine the right amount of mint and chocolate, neither is dominating the other. I like them.

I’ve been having problems getting into the idea of Raspberry Almond. My opinion on them isn’t completely formed. They are alright, I don’t hate them but I don’t love them. Honestly, if they were the only candy left in the candy dish I’d happily eat them.

Mocha is purely a coffee lover’s treat. I don’t do coffee. I wouldn’t eat them under normal circumstances. I am happy to report that all of my coffee drinking co-workers raved about them. One very strange co-worker walked around inhaling from the bag.

I’m a nut lover. I’m happy that Mars decided to include regular Almond. They weren’t anything extraordinary flavor wise but they looked good. I like them better than regular M&M’s with almonds. Not having a crunchy coating is appealing to me (the distracting texture thing again). The shell, chocolate and almond merge together in your mouth.

Overall I’m impressed with M&M’s Premiums. They’re more luxe than eating a candy bar. Not only are they delicious but they invoke a glam feeling. Having candy this beautiful is enough to derail any fashionista’s diet. It’s cool because living a fashionista’s life is simply fabulous… always fun.

I’ve given most of the chocolate away. It was hard but I just couldn’t eat it all myself.

Besides the free chocolates, did they pay you? We bought these and were extremely disappointed. The candy shell was nearly nonexistent and the taste was mediocre. They are absolutely not worth the price! That’s a free review from a blogger who paid for them herself.
